Brand Management Software
Designed and built a brand management tool used by hundreds of organizations.
The Brand Book is a digital brand management tool that brings logos, imagery, colors, typography, and brand guidelines together in one organized, accessible space.
I designed and developed the product to give organizations a single source of truth for their brand. By replacing scattered files and disconnected resources with a centralized system, teams and external partners can more easily maintain consistency, collaborate, and share their brand identity.
User Research
I gathered feedback through user surveys and interviews to understand what nonprofit teams needed from a brand management tool. A recurring theme was the challenge of keeping branding and messaging consistent across teams, platforms, and communications.
Using these insights, I developed a user persona, Sara the Communicator, to represent users responsible for maintaining their organization's brand identity.
Sara's primary need was a centralized, accessible resource for keeping visual assets, brand guidelines, and messaging consistent.
Design Requirements
Centralized File Management
A single place to store and organize brand assets, including logos, images, fonts, and documents, with versioning, search, filters, and bulk upload.
Simple Content Management
An intuitive interface with pre-formatted sections for mission, values, and guidelines, allowing teams to add and update content without code.
Color System Support
A built-in tool that automatically generates tints and shades while displaying accurate hex and RGB values.
Responsive and Accessible Design
A responsive experience designed to support accessibility standards, including alt text and sufficient color contrast.
Scalable Structure
A flexible template that supports the needs of small teams and more complex, enterprise-level brand systems.
Key Features & Interactions
I designed an asset library for photography, logos, graphics, and brand files, with quick actions to preview, download, or copy assets in multiple file formats.
I designed the color library to make brand colors easy to reference and reuse, with one-click copying of hex codes to the clipboard for quick, accurate use across projects.
I developed a tints and shades generator that automatically creates color variations from a color, with one-click copying of hex codes. This made it easier for teams to build consistent color palettes, particularly for website design projects.
I included client personas to establish a shared understanding of the target audience's needs, goals, and motivations, helping teams create more consistent, relevant content.
I added typography management so teams could link to Google Fonts or upload font files for download, making it easy to access and maintain consistent brand typography.
Results & Impact
The Brand Book launched as a fully integrated product within Brick River's SaaS platform and is now used by hundreds of organizations to manage and share their brand identities.
By bringing visual assets, brand guidelines, and messaging into one centralized system, the product gave teams a more organized way to maintain consistency and collaborate across departments and external partners.
